Forest Therapy involves immersing yourself in a forest and enjoying a stroll through the woods.

The Forest Therapy Society has designated 4 Forest Therapy locations within Fukuoka Prefecture (Yame, Buzen, Ukiha, and Sasaguri).

Today we will partake in Buzen's Edakawachi Ajisai Course with a tour guide.

"Forest Therapy" involves immersing yourself in a forest and enjoying a stroll through the woods.
Recently, we've learned that this has a variety of positive impacts on our bodies, physically and emotionally.

There are 5 "Forest Therapy" courses here in Buzen: Kubotesan, Jirobo Tengubashi, Toriihata Satoyama, Edakawachi Ajisai, and the Saio no Ipponzakura Miharashi courses.

This is Satomi Higashi, a Buzen Forest Guide, and she'll guide us on the Edakawachi Ajisai Course today.

So I've heard that "Forest Therapy" involves walking through a forest. Is "Forest Therapy" popular right now?

Yea I'd agree with that. There are tons of "Forest Therapy" courses being set up throughout the country. Including Buzen, there are 4 "Forest Therapy" courses in Fukuoka Prefecture. The Edakawachi Ajisai course is 4 kilometers, and I highly recommend walking it in June, when the hydrangeas are in full bloom.

Oh, then today is perfect!

の画像

All these hydrangeas are so beautiful. We're here at the perfect time.

The locals have been volunteering here since 2001, planting flowers and now there are about 15,000 hydrangeas here.

June is when they are in full bloom.
This is a flat course and can be easily handled by beginners.

Yea it seems like it'd be possible for the elderly to have minimal trouble walking this course.

The green shades of the forest and the sound of the creek, it's such a relaxing environment.

It's already been said that "Forest Bathing" had a relaxing effect on the mind and body.
"Forest Therapy" sharpens the five senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste, and lowers stress, while strengthening immunity.
Those are the effects of "Forest Therapy".

Since you're walking the whole time, it helps keep your body in shape too, killing two birds with one stone.

Take a deep breath and enjoy all the benefits of "Forest Therapy".

Will do!

This is the turn-around point of the course, Oyamasumi Shrine.
The mountain god is worshipped here.

Is there a shrine back there?

Yes, the grounds are back there.
It's quite a small torii isn't it?

Yes it's even smaller than the one before.

We've arrived at the Edakawachi Meeting Hall. Let's sharpen our sense of taste with a nice lunch.

Oh, perfect! I became hungry on the walk.

This was made locally,
it's a soba set lunch. It's part of a special menu that can only be tasted during the Edakawachi Ajisai Course.

Wow this special dish looks great. So for the other courses this dish is not available?

That's right. There are "Forest Therapy" lunches available for the other ones.

Well I'm going to dig in. It's so good! It's delicious. There were soba fields where we were walking actually; these are made with local Kubote Soba. This is the freshest of the fresh.

They're nice and firm with a good texture; I think these are the best soba noodles I've ever had.

That's excellent, I'll be sure to let everyone know!

Please do.

Well, we made it.

"We've rounded the Therapy Road and have arrived back at the Iwaya Kasseika Center."

That was so much fun!

The hydrangeas were beautiful, the greenery, the sounds of the running water…I was able to totally relax. It seems like you were able immerse your 5 senses completely into this experience.

Yes, and I enjoyed it as well.

Thank you very much.

Come to Buzen with your family or friends and experience this "Forest Therapy".

I look forward to your visit!
